I completely agree with the core thesis of this post – 0-3 to South Africa is – was – and remains the core issue.
Beating a a reasonable Wales side, sub-standard England, Italy and a crap French midfield need to be off-set with some pretty average and unconvincing moments in the first 3 matches.
The Boks are the world champs so they are who we need to benchmark against.
Basically, the performance at the weekend merely confirmed for opponents that they shouldn’t opt for an open running game when they play the ABs (especially if you’re not going to tackle in the midfield) and rest assured none of them will come RWC 2011 (and the important games in between).

Why does Stephen jones continually critisize New Zealand rugby? We are trying to play positively but when we play a negative team like England it is a boring game and I think England has to take the majority of the blame for that.

Looking at the results over the weekend between the Southern and Northern Hemispheres, the North scored a total of no tries. I think (apologies if I am mistaken, this is just off the top of my head) the last time the All Blacks did not score a try in a test match was in 1993.

I heard from a relative of mine in Melbourne that more Ozy rules fans are now finding Union more attractive because of all the kicking. In the Italy game, the ball was kicked 49 times in the 1st half. Here’s my take – dump the ELV’s, get rucking back into the game, reduce the drop goal to 1 point. But that would mean an admitance from the IRB and NZRFU that they were and are all over paid and dumb. The entertanment factor is what pays for Sky subscriptions and bums on seats. To ignore this would show our own stupidity and ultimately continue destroying the game. My prediction is – if this keeps going, in 5 years NZ will be struggling for top class players because the defection numbers to other codes is currently huge, so wake up!!.

Technicalities means penalties and a bloody boring game to watch.

Lets compare the 1st four AB matches to the recent Four nations league test series and here are the staggerng differences. Then wonder why Rogers made the change.

Total Tries in 4 AB’s games – 7
Conversions – 3
Penalties – 28

Four Nations league, 1st 4 games
Total tries – 36
Conversions – 29
Stats dont lie – no wonder so many young boys are converting to NRL. The rules of Union suit the Northern Hemisphere teams and the IRB chess players. We and the NZRFU are owned by these white collar crims and the NZRFU don’t have either the balls or brains to stand up for a running rugby game and better spectator sport. If you think watching the huge amount of penalties being scored and bugger all tries, then perhaps we don’t need the other 14 players on the field. Lets just have an 80 minute penalty shoot out. Time to pull fingers from holes and change the bollocks rules and get the defensive lines behind the mauls standing 10 mtrs back from the base. Hmm, aint that a league rule???
